Topic tags/keywords: dyeing question cedar

I recently put up a new cedar picket fence for my dad. I plan on using some of the left over cedar pickets and making his favorite college team’s logo out of it to mount on the fence. I had considered dyeing the logo the teams color and was wanting input. How well will it weather? What to use to lock the color in (exterior use)? and any other tips.

Typical dyes and stains for indoor apps will quickly fade. Use outdoor stains, with heavy pigment, or paint to limit fading. The outdoor translucent stains fade pretty quick also. The pigment is needed to protect from UV.
