Topic tags/keywords: question mother of pearl

My fellow LJ’s

I am contemplating using mother of pearl laminate for the panel of a small box lid. The laminate is 0.006” thick (which I believe might be somewhat translucent) and I was thinking of applying it over a 1/4” baltic birch ply. My questions are: 1) should I paint the plywood white to hide any grain that might show up beneath the veneer?, and 2) what type of glue would be best suited, with or without a painted substrate?

Any comments or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Look in the projects section. There are two recent projects posted by an Indian gentleman using mother of pearl. He should have some good insight.
