I am working on a special project to build a simple square table 36” square by 34” tall. I would like the top of the table to be made from Almond wood, but finding planks that are at least 1” thick has been next to impossible.

Any advice?

I have had limited success with Almond wood. First, it is nearly impossible to find a strait grained piece of almond that is 36” long. Or even 18” long! And if you can find the wood, by the time you get it dry, it will have twisted and split or cracked, greatly. Nastier than eucalyptus!
I have been successful in turning very small pieces into items such as wine bottle stoppers. Good luck, and let us know of your success.

Ira,

Thanks for sharing your experience… :) I have a feeling that I may as well be reaching for the moon with this little project. I’ve tried searching online and the only thing I can find is flooring or veneers. So frustrating…

I figure if you can’t find it used successfully in this manner in Central Cali (that’s where I’m from…), then I’m REALLY not likely to find it in the South. sad face

Have your say...
