I snapped my roughing gouge a few days ago right at the ferule. I brought it in to Lee Valley just to ask if I could have done anything differently to stop it from breaking. They took one look at it and said, “Nope, it shouldn’t do that. Let me see if we have a replacement”. So now I’m back at the lathe and back to work. Just wanted to let everyone know that Lee Valley does customer service right.

Lee Valley has great customer service. I bought a bunch of bow clamps and some other items. They shipped in 2 boxes, the first box arrived, the bow clamps didn’t. I called them and the box was never delivered, they called UPS and tried to find out what was going on. Later that day I got a call from LV and they said UPS is not going to deliver because the box was damaged, claiming that was how it was picked up. LV sent out a whole new set no questions asked.

Last year I was at a one-day carving seminar at a Lee Valley store and mentioned in passing to an employee that the handle of my smoother plane had developed a small crack. Not that it was really broken and it didn’t get in the way of planing. He came back with a new bubinga handle for me. While I find it slightly annoying to have to order at the counter, I’ve rarely experienced customer service of the caliber they offer (paying return shipping and refunding original shipping on returns, no questions asked, really?).
