Hi. I’m quite new. I have done some research about woodworking, and I am looking for a table saw. I found this on ebay, is it a good buy? Its still got a few days before it ends. Should I get it?

BSAS, I had that exact saw, with a 2hp motor, many years ago before I got a cabinet saw. I liked it a lot. I’d pay $250 for it if it’s in good working condition but, please understand, I’m not up with the market.

Prices change based on where you are in the world. In Maryland if the saw is in good condition then its a fair value.

I had one of those, with the same fence and rails (except for the wooden cheeks). I hated that fence, same for any fence that locks at the far end, like my dad’s 50s vintage Craftsman. They never lock down solid (smack it sideways with your fist as a test), and they don’t automatically lock down square. You have to measure from front tooth and back tooth on every cut to rip with reasonable accuracy.

It didn’t take long for me to discard the original fence and rails, and fabricate a T-square type of fence with angle iron front rail (you don’t need the rear rail). Better yet, if you buy the saw, purchase a decent quality T-square fence and new rails. There are several different ones available.

I sold mine for maybe $150 a few years ago. Of course, mine didn’t have the bright aura glowing around it that that one does. Maybe indicates it’s been blessed. That’s gotta be worth something.

eh.. if it’s right near you and will save you some
hassles, yeah, probably.

If you’re willing to hold off a bit, the site below
auctions a lot of cabinet saws in central California,
often for really low prices.

Have your say...
