Topic tags/keywords: tip question trick resource

Could someone help out a novice woodworker figure out what type of sales to look for this holiday season? I’ve never “Black Friday” shopped for woodworking, but I would love to try this year if there’s anything around. I’ve heard some things about Jet and I do know to look out for HD and Lowe’s (I have to give them credit; their woodworking supplies have increased diversity this year), but what about others….like Rockler, Woodcraft, Grizzley, etc. I’d appreciate anyone’s experience and helpful insight on what to look out for.

Jet typically has a half-price sale on their parallel clamps. I picked up 8 last year.

Get on “Tools Plus” email list, they typically have good sales during the holidays. I picked up a Bosch Colt last year on a really good sale.

I thought Online was Manic Monday or something. Since everyone who is someone is at WalMart on Black Friday thought the online sales was a different day. Maybe I’m just retarded. If I remember right I thought WoodCraft had something last year, although that was a long time ago, so no quoting me on that.

What you say about this

Think I have bought every machine I have on a end of year or Christmas sale. Sometimes Grizzly has some pretty good sales on machines. See they have some pretty good deals this year. The website should have the same prices.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far. I’ll keep a look out on Jet as I could use a few Parallel clamps (I currently have none due to price).
As for the online sales, it was always typically on Cyber Monday, but in recent years, online sales have been happening earlier as more people flock online for purchases over retail, so I don’t think it’s all that relevant these days, IMO.
Does anyone do BF sales on lumber? I was also hoping for some type of sale from Wynn Environmental for their filter, but I heard they don’t usually do one, so I’m still waiting to see what happens with that anyways. :)

Quick clamps are usually the cheapest just before Christmas every year. I have bought many in past decembers.

Depends on what you’re in need of. I typically look for deals on consumables like blades, bits, and sandpaper. And of course you can never have too many clamps. I have found it’s best to assess what you actually can use vs. just getting whatever is available for the best deal. That being said, nothing is likely to come close to the deals available at Lowes earlier this year when they were liquidating all of their remaining Bessey stock. Getting up to 80% off in some cases is a deal few were able to pass up.

I honestly don’t know what I’m really looking for in particular since I’ve never shopped for woodworking on BF. I wouldn’t mind having a quality TS blade or maybe some accessories for my BS. Or maybe Incra has some crazy sales; Oneida even with their Super Dust Deputy. I have plenty of clamps (most of them Did come from the Lowe’s liquidation as well as HD), so I’d only be interested in the Parallel clamps from Jet or maybe others if on sale. I guess I could eliminate the larger power tools as most of mine either came from CL or I got a really good deal locally. Ah, some dust collection duct work would be nice (although I’m still contemplating using PVC with a ground wire going through them to be safe).

Something to keep in mind: Lowes, home depot, and all those big box stores change the prices on their tools every 2 weeks, usually on a Sunday. They also check eachothers prices 3 times a day
