I’m in the design phase of building a mitersaw station. The main use is going to be 90 degree cuts for 3 different lengths. It’ll also be used for whatever so being able to quickly go back and make those three different cuts will be important.

I think a Miter saw fence is going to be the best design.

3 choices:
1. Build my own
2. Kreg’s precision t track kit
3. fastcap’s best fench

I’ve been thinking about it for a while and can’t come to a decision. $ is what I’m having an issue with. I like the bestfench but man is it expensive. Then I think that building my own is the best way but how repeatable will it be? Then I think kreg’s kit would be better… but if I’m going to spend money I should consider the best fence.

Any thoughts/opinions/advise that can help would be greatly welcomed.

My thought is build your own, and if it isn’t good enough then build it again. I have never used the ones you are interested in but I would still say build your own even if I had. I don’t do a lot of repetitive cuts but I know how important that can be. I am sure it is possible to build a stop that can be accurate enough for you.

Well that is all I got.

I have the Incra 1000 and the plain jane Incra could not be happier…. Especially when I have to do a lot of repetative cuts….

I have an old Rockler system that is no longer sold. It is very similar to the Kreg system with flip stop etc.
The flip stop is great for making repetitive cuts, and each piece comes out the exact same length. I tightened down the bolt on the flip stop to remove any play. I think Kregs system with 4’ support on one side and 2’ support on the other side is ideal. http://lumberjocks.com/pintodeluxe/blog/41020
It’s nothing fancy, but it is mobile and sturdy with self contained dust collection.

Good luck.

I went with Best Fence for my Dewalt. Still tuning the set up, but I like it. I really like the measuring tape on the table with the stop that you cut to exact length . repeatable and perfect. I also can break it down and move it.

Have your say...
