Hi,
This vise has been lurking on my local CL for a while. I think it might make a good tail vise. I have not been able to find anything online that looks like it (except for the piano makers vises, but those are different). Anyone recognize it?
Thanks!

One would think there are some casting marks somewhere but looking at it I bet it would make a fine tail vise….

It also looks like a mill vise of some sort.

I’d get it.

I think I’ve found it! Looks like it actually is a piano makers vise, just without the wheel handle. I found some blog posts from when Don W and Chris Schwarz were on the hunt for Studley style vises to research their forthcoming book. Looks like Don found one that’s nearly identical! I think I’m definitely going to check out this vise. I’ll let you all know if I buy it. Thanks for the responses.

Here’s a pic of the vise Don found…

Aaaargh!! I have the worst luck. This thing has been listed for well over a month now. I look at it last night and think about checking it out. The very next morning, the post disappears!! I guess it wasn’t meant to be.

The vise reappeared after a week. I picked it up last night. It’s pretty awesome. Just have a couple questions about it. A bunch of pics and my questions are here…
