This is another “is this old table saw worth my time?” question.

This is an old Jet that is local – asking price $100.

It obviously needs some TLC.

According to this thread, the older Jet saws had 3 options for the fence (1. aluminum “Jet Fence,” 2. Jet Microglide, or 3. the Jet Exacta II fence).

Can someone tell me which one this has from the picture?

The seller hasn’t provided much information (no model number yet) other than “works great.” I do know that it has a motor model E171548, which is 1.5HP, I think.

That’s the Jet Fence. If it runs well, it’s worth $100 IMO, but due to the neglected condition I’d tried to get it for a little less. With some elbow grease and paint, it should shine up nicely. You’ll want to check the arbor bearings closely….they can be replaced for a reasonable price if you’re willing to put some time in.

Those were nice saws; plenty of power and good accuracy for a contractor saw. If it works well, and the problems are strictly cosmetic, then I think it will be a good deal if you are willing to invest some time and elbow grease. The nasty top will clean up with a couple hours effort. It won’t look like new, but it will work.

I’d offer $50 if it checked out mechanically.

Thanks Scott. Are those wings steel or cast iron?

I was hoping this had one of the nicer fences. I will think about it.

Looks like a decent deal to me if it is OK mechanically. With the poor appearance, I would probably try to offer a little less, but if I had to pay the full $100, would still think I got a good deal. The ubiquitous Craftsman contractor saws with much crappier fences routinely sell for $75-$150 around here, depending on condition.

I own that same model and it’s been very good to me. It is the aluminum Jet fence with stamped steel wings. Mine is 1 1/2 hp, so that’s a pretty good guess this one will be the same. The fence is basic but it holds its alignment. +1 on offering less, but $100 isn’t bad if it checks out. Hope that helps.

If it runs, and runs true, it’s worth $100. You’ll need to pull it apart and give it a good cleaning, derusting, check alignment. Jet fences never were anything to brag about it but they were serviceable. When it’s all said and done, it’ll be worth about $250 (in my neck of the woods).
