I have a jet air cleaner. I need to replace the furnace type filter on it. I believe the Jet replacement is a MERV 7. The jet filter cost about $20, however a regular MERV 7 that size is about $3. What is the difference? Any reason to buy the Jet filter?

I think your Jet and my Powermatic use the same filters, 12” x 24” x 1”. You asking about the outer filter? I get mine at Lowes. You can spend as much as you want. I get the cheapies, the inner filter does all the heavy lifting. Inner filter can be blown out and used again. Installed at purchase is 5 micron outer, 1 micron inner.

My recommendation would be an electrostatic or metal mesh outer filter which can be cleaned rather than replacing it. Also they collect more of the dust than furnace type filters and making it almost unnecessary to replace the more expensive inner pocket style filter.
