Looking for a new self centering 4 jaw chuck to use on projects big and small. I have a Jet EVS-2 and looking for a chuck that would work good with it. What would you recommend

Wood Craft has the “Super Nova2” on sale. It’s a real good chuck. I Like mine.

I just got the same chuck Jim has. It takes some getting used to (I’m pretty new to turning), but I’m very happy with mine as well.

All about price of a chuck & threaded insert to fit your 1642 lathe, selection of jaws for chuck you buy. I am partial to Oneway chucks have two of them but Nova & Vicmarc make outstanding chucks as well.

I link this site because can compare different brand name chucks. Do shop around for best deals. Nova seems to run sales or specials couple time a year.

I list this site because do not pay extra for threaded insert for 4” or 5” chuck. Assume just a China knock off of a major brand. Many major brand chucks made in China today so if cost is an issue have a look.

Both Nova & Oneway have excellent web sites, Vicmarc does too but catalogs & web sites here more helpful..

I am also a Nova fan, but I know that many folks are very happy with their Oneway and Vicmarc chucks as well. It may well come down to price and availability of optional sets of jaws you can mount on the same chuck body.

Nova has a wide range of additional jaws that fit all their chucks with some new ones coming soon.
