Please share your thoughts…

I am thinking about making several rocking horses for holiday gifts. I am curious if there are any plans that have been used and worked out well?

This is the general idea I am thinking of:

If you have made a rocking horse share a photo and the sizes!!!

Thanks Gary from Indianapolis

Like this one? (LOL). I built it not too long after Wood published the plan. I consider this one more of a display piece than a useable rocking horse (by children). The basic construction isn’t robust enough for rough treatment, and even if it was the seat would be so uncomfortable that a child wouldn’t be able to sit on it very long at all. You can see I made a few minor tweaks to the original (walnut plugs in the rockers, rocker platform, left the handles off). But it makes a very nice looking display piece. A friend made some with a Harley look to them for his grandkids….they went over really big with the kids, and the design was suitable for rough use.

First off, I must say, I have never made any childrens’ toys, save a few baby rattles. ..but I was wondering, what if you were to make the legs pivot at the joints, putting in stops so it couldn’t spin but a fraction of an inch or so ? It seems like it would give it a little more “action”.

..Just an off-the-cuff thought which may or may not have a basis in any kind of reality.

I built a rocking horse starting with plans from Family Traditions. Below is the link to the blog I wrote as I completed the project.

Made this one for my daughter. Used plans I bought off woodcraft’s website. Hope this helps.
