How much is the 5 year warranty of a new machine worth to you? Personally, the $300 difference would lean me to a new machine.
Only your own financials can answer that question. Now, if the seller understands that and is willing to dicker a bit… like down to 7 or $800, I might consider it.

Good luck.

Yeah, I think he’s a bit high. But hey, it’s craigslist. Isn’t everyone high on craigslist? I liked the $325 Jet posted a couple weeks ago that was on the wrong side of the country better.

Jointers are plentiful in this town. A month or so back
somebody had an 8” JET for like $250 down in Santa
Ana. Those deals do come up and it took awhile for
the ad to vanish.

If you’re really looking at spending over $500 on a jointer,
consider this unit:

I have one and it’s a useful machine. Mine has a Tersa
cutterhead.

Spiral cutter is nice, but you should be able to get a better deal elsewhere I think. You could find a jointer like this for 400$, spend 350$ on a helical head and still save money.
