Topic tags/keywords: dust collection question

Any thoughts or opinions on Harbor Freights dust collector. Pros/cons anything that can help me make a decision. I’m looking at the HP vs price but if a little more expensive one with less HP would work better than that’s the route I’m going to take.

Thanks in advance!
Angie

There are tons of reviews on the HF collector. All kinds of updates and enhancements to make it better.
Just type HF dost collectors in the search area.
For the most part, it seems at one time many of us have started with the HF. I have one myself and it works good for me. I also have no duct work and only run one machine at a time.
You can spend 3 time the price of a HF, and still not get any better bang for the buck.

I have one. Biggest problem is it leaking air. The motor is sound and i upgraded the bag to a paper element filter.

Take a look at the grizzlies. By the time you get done upgrading the element it’ll be cheaper.

I have one from Penn and it has served me well for many years. I’m a firm believer and buying the best one you can so later you dont have to replace it. With that said I can see me getting a cyclone in the future.

Just be sure you are making the right comparisons, the HF is more like a 1.5 HP (if you refer to the 2 HP model), it has a 10” impeller (versus 11” on the most 1.5 HP) and may need new bags. It will probably still be a little less, and a lot of guys are really happy with it.

I recall some good advice (and interesting ways to get the most from a HF collector) on the “Stumpy Nubs” site. Check his YouTube site and search for “dust collection”. I would look it up for you if I had more time.

You might like this design. It incorporates pretty much all the tips and tricks that everyone is using, plus a couple of my own.

I’ve had three HF units for years and as John said “best bang for the buck”. I don’t believe that most of the other dust collectors that have the same configurations are any better, they just cost more.

I have a HF DC and think it was a great investment. There are some inexpensive improvements, as others have pointed out, to get every last bit of performance out of it.
By the way, I live on the Space Coast too – what a great place to live!
