How do make this cut/groove

Thinking about making a few of these for X-mas and not sure how I would go about making those grooved cuts on the legs that hold the veneers.Maybe the original posters of some of these projects will chime in.Thx.http://lumberjocks.com/projects/59385

Dry assemble the frames one side at a time
and use a slot cutter.

Thx Loren,So I assume I would have to use a router but would a router table be the choice for this application?,I only have a hand held router.

You can do it either way adequately. Router
tabling it nearly makes the cut idiot-proof.
Handheld routing you have to be careful
not to tip the router. Since this is a rather
common and masterable issue in hand
routing you may as well get the practice.
