I went and looked at a nova comet mini lathe and was told it was bought earlier this year,,,but I didn’t know if they had different models,,this one had a on/off toggle switch where the other ones have the push button,,,can anyone tell me what the difference is,,,or if there is one,,,maybe I was overexpecting when I went and looked at it,,,but I thought it would be more beefy in the way it was made,,,am I missing something here,,,im just starting out,,so I don’t know much,,other than the advice I get on here

Cannot tell you when Nova stopped selling their original Comet mini lathe other than guess not long after Jet came out with their 1014 mini. None of those early mini lathes came with electronic speed control, you moved the belts along the pulleys to change speeds. You still have to move belts along pulleys to go from low to high range with electronic speed control lathes normally just two pulleys verus four.

When looking at Midi lathes have to look at the specs as much as price and optional accessories like bed extensions so can increase length of items can turn. Comet II has the most optional accessories but not sure they are needed or a bargain.

If not happy with the Comet II look at Nova 1624, or Nova DVR XP. I am not a big fan of these lathes but are great for people with limited space.

Comet II & Rikon less expensive as Delta & Jet.

If want less expensive look at

More expensive but Delta & Jet probably most popular.

If want beefier and have the money
