Is there anyone who has some good guidelines for making an adze handle for timber framing? I have the tools, and skills, and plenty of hickory, and finally have an adze head . I just don't know anybody who has an adze I can reference off of, for that matter I don't even know anyone who knows how to use one. I am looking for info on determining Handle length in relation to my reach, How to get proper head angle(hanging the head). Is there a certain balance point? That sort of stuff. I'm not interested in buying a handle from somewhere that is close to copy ,I don't have much money .
Thanks…....
Excellent!!!!!
Thanks a1jim. The picture with the tape explains so much to me! Since the head/blade has a curve to it I had a feeling that adze head to hand position probably had a point where a straight line through the handle curves would give you the head angle. I did not realize it was it would be at an easy point to duplicate. I thought it would be somewhere on the blade. I can make one now that will at least get me close and refine from there once I get the feel of it. I have to crank out this picket fence for my wife first….

Looking at the grain it looks as if it's handle is steam bent.
