Thought I would share with everyone about this deal I found today by accident. I have been pondering for a couple weeks now about which planer to buy for around $300. I had reviewed DeWalt, Delta, Crafstman, Grizzly, PM etc. Knowing the cost of a new DW it was certainly out of my range…till today. I dropped by a local Lowes just to browse around for a few free minutes and grab some glue and sandpaper. I stumbled across the planer and grabbed the last one without hesitation. Tomorrow sawdust will fly.

My best friend has a 734 and it has served him well. And believe me, he runs some lumber through it. He has a portable saw mill and cuts lots of logs. He only planes the wood he’s going to use himself, but still, that’s a lot. I think you’ll be happy with your purchase. Good deal too.

Got it going today with it bolted to a mobile base. Runs strong and cuts amazing. Very impressed.

I’ve been waiting for this, time to jump in the truck and see if the local store has any left!

If your local one doesn’t have one in stock, sweet talk ‘em and they may be able to order one in from another store – mine just did.

Just went online to lowes and bought one for pickup at a nearby store. $300.30. I’ve wanted a planer but figured I’d have to wait till I found a good used one someplace or buy a cheap one which I didn’t want to do. I’d been looking at this one. It has good reviews most places online.

THANKYOU for the heads up Wrangler!!!

Thanks for the info. Picked one up a few minutes ago. When I saw your post I checked online and my store showed not having any. Went by today and they had one left in the box.

Thank you Sawdust Wrangler for posting about the clearance sale Lowes has on the DW734. I picked one up today and am looking forward to expanding my woodworking horizons by being able to work with different thickness materials rather than just the 3/4” stuff I’ve been buying at the big box stores. Of course this means that I’ll have to venture into buying rough lumber, which I’ve never done before, but that will be a good learning experience too.

as best i can tell i got the last 734 they had at this particular store. The new 735 is running 600+.

congrats on a workhorse tool! I’ve had mine for about 4 years now, and at $300 you got a very good deal on it.

Barry, I’d rather have the 733, but you’re correct that’s a ‘check the balance’ ok, yep, it’s going home with me purchase.

So far its getting a belly full of oak and maple like it was born to. Very satisfied. As luck would have it, grabbing a 6 1/8 benchtop jointer used for $40 of Craiglist. Its a Crafstman and I’ve yet to lay eyes on it so we shall see.

I stopped by Lowes to look at a dust collector and WOW! DW734, last one, display model, $250! (Lowes Brooklyn,OH). This looks like a nice planer. Can’t wait to try it out.

Very nicely done goggy. Well I got jointer. It was only 2 yrs old and was sitting in storage. Only issue with it was a plastic guide that sets the fence plane was broken. Appeared to be an easy fix. Well worth the $40.

734, finally got it on a stand, read the directions and put a short board through it. I’ve never had a planer before. This is going to be nice.
