I’d like to try sand shading on some inlay. This will be my first try at it. The wood I’ll be sand shading is walnut. I also want to stain the wood. Should I stain the wood before sand shading or after? Thanks in advance for your thoughts and advice.

I would say sand shade first and stain afterward. Sand shading takes place at temperatures around 600 degrees F.
I don’t think there are many stains around that would survive that.
