Christmas is rounding the bend and I want to know if anyone is planning to make any presents this year. This is my first year in woodworking so I’m excited to create some great gifts.

I’m looking to make a wooden mallet for my father, a few cutting boards for extended family, and a sitting bench for the wife to put at the end of our bed.

Does anyone have any favorite projects that work great as Christmas gifts?

I just bought a few of the cheese slicer arms, so I’ll do some of them. Have a bunch of cutting boards already. I’m thinking about doing some clip boards for the folks I know who use them often. You can buy just the clip part online. Also, bottle opener with rare earth magnets to catch the caps.

Boxes are always nice.

I owe my Mom a jewelry box, so I will try and get that done by Christmas for her.

I owe assorted family a spice rack, a harmonica case, and a cutting board or two. We’ll see if I can pull it all of in time.

I want do make a couple boxes, a picture frame.
My niece request a pot holder loom to replace a plastic one that broke.

On a related note, I plan on doing the ornament swap again this year. Thread should be up tonight or tomorrow.

Last year was the first time I made xmas presents and they were just whatever but this year I have a few planned. A crane (from Wood Mag) for youngest daughter who has always been amazed by them, as a toddler she called them “crames”. A musical instrument for my oldest daughter, probably a lute-ish guitar. Maybe a cutting board or two for my wife among other things.
