I will be building a window seat with built-in cabinets/bookshelves in my kids room. Haven’t decided on materials yet- am trying to decide whether this will be stained or painted. What finish will be easiest to clean and repair? Common culprits: crayons, pencils, stickers, Tonka trucks, thrown toys…
Thanks!

If stained, water or oil based polyurethane is tough to beat for durability. My paint recommendation would be a lacquer, easy to clean and fairly hard. If you’re trying to avoid dents, hardwood will wear much better than soft.
