Topic tags/keywords: pink ivory purpleheart yellowheart dyed veneer veneering question tip resource

I make and sell a bent wood ring.

This one is with anigre and I have used some fumed eucalyptus wood. The fumed eucalyptus is almost black in color. I have had people ask for other colors.

I have access to a national exotic veneer company where I live. But I can not find pink ivory as a veneer. I have thought about buying turning pen blanks and then ripping thin strips.

So I want to know if pink ivory, as a veneer thickness, bends well? I understand that it is an oily wood. I use CA gel to hold the wood in place, will I have to clean the wood surface before gluing it and with what? The CA is also the finish similarly to the way a pen is finished. After I finish the last coat, I sand with a 1000 grit and then use a plastic polish compound to polish the surface.

I just need to know what I am likely to run into. If you have experience with pink ivory let me know. I am thinking about purple heart, yellow heart and some of the dyed veneers. Again any suggestions will be greatly welcomed for these.

I have some pink ivory veneer. It is 1.5mm sawn veneer from Les Fils De J George in Paris. I haven’t tried to bend it but it seems very hard and brittle to me. To look at and to feel, it does not seem oily at all

I have carved Pink Ivory, but never used a veneer. I have steam bent Macassar Ebony, by soaking it in a plasticizer and steaming it for 10 min. Maybe the same can be used for the Pink Ivory?
