I just built some game boards (corn hole, bean bag toss) and finished with 6 coats of poly. The end product looks great, but the feel of the finish has no slide to it at all (running hand across doesn’t flow freely).

Can I use a 00 steel wool, very gently, to smooth the final coat and have the poly loose some of its tackiness? I know some people say don’t use steel wool on poly, but figured I would ask the experts.

Thanks in advance!!

Two thoughts: your finish may not be fully cured especially if you rushed the 6 coats on. Give it some time with a fan on it. Then if you still aren’t happy wax it.

I second the wait and see followed by waxing.
