Topic tags/keywords: i was just that close

This afternoon was just a hot Texas summer day until about 2:30 pm. Needing some wood for a project I went down to our local Woodcraft store. I found what I was looking for and went to check out. I got there at the same time as a middle-aged couple put their things on the checkout counter across from me. The 2 clerks started to ring up our purchases, the other couple only had 2 router bits while I had about 6 items on my counter. Their check out finished first and the clerk said they had checked out at the right time and won a 2nd place prize. I heard this and figured they would probably get some little “Mickey Mouse” prize. The clerk went to the back and struggled back with a really big and heavy box. Their prize in the box was the Jorgenson Clamp Set (nearly $200) in the catalog picture. Those clamps were so heavy they had to help the guy out to his car with them.

I was just that close. If I had only 1-2 items my checkout would have been before his and I would now have a brand new, nearly $200 Clamp Set. Like they say….sometimes you’re the bug and sometimes you are the windshield.

Well that ticked me off thinking how I was just that close....my day was shot. I didn’t even want to go to my shop when I got home so I got on the computer and there was a email from Lumberjocks that my latest cheese slicing board had been selected as a daily Top 3. No $200 Clamps but a badge on my project page. Not much but it kinda fixed things and so I did go back out to the shop (today’s heat index is at 107 degrees) and put in another sweaty afternoon on my current project….the Box for the Box Swap. This box is really involved and is going to take a lot of time between now and October. The time was well spent and some serious progress was made.

But I was just that close!!!!!!!

Well sometimes “CLOSE” is a good as we are gonna GET!

ENJOY the top 3 status! Presume they needed the clamps more than you did anyway!

I “won” a trip onetime and it ended up just making some other people very jealous and they caused a lot of trouble for me. The people that caused all the trouble are now either dead or so crippled/sick they want o be dead. “SOMEBODY” evens the scores we do not need to even account for them!

I did not even resent the trouble; but, at the time it sure tore my life apart for a year or so.

Just remember. Being close only counts in Horseshoes, Hand Grenades, and Nuclear Weapons.

I was close to winning a Powerball jackpot. Only 6 numbers were off.

Now that you have been selected as a daily Top 3. go back to Woodcraft store and treat yourself to a box of Jorgensen Clamps ,you deserve it.
