Topic tags/keywords: wood species mdf maple birch

Once again i’m no good with wood species. I have a bunch of this mdf but I’m not sure if Its birch or maple or what? There 2×2 1/4 sheets I’m not sure what there worth but I have about 50 of them.

HD has 1/4” 2’X4’ MDF panels for $6.47 each so that would make your 2’X2” worth about $3.25 each.

Am I crazy, or does MDF signify something made out of wood fiber? That doesn’t look like MDF at all. It looks like birch enough that I would assume its that just because birch ply is more common than maple ply.

Mdf just means its fiber board but you can laminate or veneer almost anything onto mdf same as ply. But its not ply its mdf since its the fiber core instead of layers.

Aha! Obvious. Whenever I think of MDF I think of the wood without a veneer. I didn’t think about veneer at all. Well, that might make maple as likely since not all the layers would be solid wood. I still think it looks very much like the birch ply I buy occasionally from the box stores.
