Topic tags/keywords: tip question

Hi all, I’ve lined up what appears to be a pretty good lumber score . It’s all free and I’m going to go pick it up around 9pm. They person lives about 30-40 mins away and was looking for some opinions before I invest the 2hrs and 25$ in gas.

According to phone conversation and pics there is a good amout of hardwood and ERC which is in the first 2 pics and a good amout of construction SPF, cabinet ply and construction ply in the 3rd pic. The seller is the daughter of a former woodworker. So considering the pics , gas, time and price how would you rate this score? Pics are attached.

That looks great! To me, it looks like mostly softwoods, but that stuff isn’t exactly free at the home improvement store! Certainly worth the time and effort (and money) to pick it up! I would be curious to know if you find any treasures (besides the whole thing).

Even though the daughter claims there’s a decent amount of hardwood mixed in I still think it’s a good find regardless. The top two rows under the stairs look to be better than average boards of some type. I also counted 7visible ERC board (one of my favs) just those alone make it pretty much worth it. So if the rest just ends up being home/shop improvement lumber I’m still way ahead of what’s expected.

I’m not extremely savvy about identifying wood but I have a feeling there will be quite a few decent hardwood boards in those top 2 rows. All I can do is cross my fingers until I get there.

Wow, you have to be EXTRA special to get an LJ YOU SUCK before you even have the goods, but I guess it’s unanimous. “YOU WILL, ALMOST CERTAINLY, SOMETIME IN THE FUTURE SUCK!”

Eastern red / aromatic cedar. It’s a soft wood but has the strongest scent of the cedars and I also find the deep red and white pretty. But technically I think it’s a juniper and not truly a cedar.

Well it’s finally got the haul how and in the garage. Now I need to sticker the good and store the construction lumber above the garage. Was less quality hardwood than I had hoped for but all and all it was still a killer deal for free. I’ll post some pics of the good stuff.

Alright guys it’s all tagged, stacked and separated. I have some photos of the hardwood and will do a quick rundown of the haul.

Hardwood
W. Oak 8/4 8”x10’
Mahogany 6/4 8”x4’ and 4/4 4”x2’
Maple 4/4 4”x5’
Red oak 4/4 8”x3’ and a painters bucket full of oak flooring and what appears to be 2 oak dowels
Select pine 3/4 10”x10’
Cherry (?) 3/4 and 1/2 1’-3’ cut offs a bin full
(5) jorgy f clamps 18”

Construction
I say (12) full boards mixed 2×6 and 2×4 with lots of 2’-4’ers mixed in.
8 2’x4’ pieces of 3/4” pine ply
4 PT 2×4’s

Cedar
(4-6) 2” boards
(6) 1”x6” full length boards
To many cedar shorts to count 1’-4’ 1×6

Photos are below. A little help identifying the bin I believe is cherry cut offs would appreciated.
