Topic tags/keywords: question planer

I currently have a 13” Ridgid planer and I’ve worn out the bearings in it. I started tearing it apart to replace them and about halfway through I decided I might look at an upgrade instead. I’ve never been very happy with the Ridgid planer anyway. Now I’m looking at a 15” Grizzly GO453, a 16” Jet JWP-16OS, or a 20” RBI 720 that is used. I wondered if anyone has any advice or experience with any of them. The RBI is $1900 and comes with a Jet DC-1182 dust collector that would also be an upgrade for me. It is a planer/moulder/sander, which I have no experience with.

If the RBI is in good shape it is an excellent machine and the extra width will serve you well, but I think that price is too high. The Jet is a solid machine, you can’t go wrong with Jet.

I would not consider anything from grizzly unless you are willing to spend a lot of time and effort solving the myriad of issues they have.

Thanks for the input. I found another RBI that came with a sanding drum and molding shaft for $1300.
