Topic tags/keywords: outdoor furniture cedar

Hey all,

I bought some plans for an outdoor glider bench. I’ve seen some on this site and I’d like to use cedar. I’ve purchased cedar for some small rough projects in the past. It was pretty knotty but it didn’t matter on those earlier projects. I would like to use a better grade for this job.

Is there relatively clear cedar available? Should I just select the best from the pile and try to cut out the best pieces for the seat and back? I don’t have a lot of experience with this wood.

Thanks for any help,

BJ

BJ,

Try contacting Richard at CedarUSA.

They have just about anything you could want in Eastern Red Cedar (aka Aromatic Red Cedar).

Good Luck!

Where are you shopping? I have always gotten my WRC at my local lumber yard. Never at big store. Sadly my store doesn’t stock it any more, you have to order it. Back then though, they had better stuff and were happy for me to pick my boards. Can you find a local mom and pop place? ERC will be even harder to find clear stuff, but it’s great for outdoor furniture.

Is there any white cedar available in your neck of the woods?
