Saw an add on craigslist for a single handplane, but the guy mentioned that he had about 40-50 he would like to sell. So I went. He mostly had post-WWII stanleys (blue ones and Handymans) craftsman, and other cheaper planes, mostly #4 sized, about 4 block planes, and about 10-12 handsaws, and a hand drill that looked nice, but needed a new wooden handle. He was advertising a Newer (last 20-30 years) Millers Falls #6 sized plane (18” long), but I didn’t want it. (If anybody does and lives near Cincinatti, I can point you to the add).

But here’s what I picked up for a TOTAL of $60 (I’ve cleaned and somewhat tuned up the 2 smallest planes):

-Craftsman adjustable mouth block plane that works really well.
-Union #2c plane. I may try to get my young son to use this one, or sell it
-Stanley type 14 (sweetheart) No. 6c (Probably won’t keep this one either, but it was $15 bucks!)
-Old wooden Dado plane with both irons.
-Full-sized Diston in good shape…can’t read the etch yet, but I’m hopeful.
-Medium sized toolbox sized saw in good shape (warranted superior)
-No medalion small kid-sized saw, but looks to be of good quality. (possibly for my kid)

Nice haul. I know a someone who has a good home for that stanley SW no 6. It would match my newly acquired no 4 & no 5. Its a bummer that I just missed these. I just got home from Wilmington, Oh on Sunday.

More pics of No.6 upon request, with all it’s warts:

oops, forgot to take a picture of the chip on the horn of the tote…(I’m at work now). Imagine you are looking down at the top of the tote, with the back of the plane closest to you, front facing away from you…This is what you would see on that small flat section at the top of the tote: A screw, and a small chip where the shaded black section is:

Since nobody else has let me be the first to tell you that you suck.

That is a great haul.
