Topic tags/keywords: question padauk

Does anyone know of a source for really colorful Padauk boards? I am needing a piece about 20”x6”x3/4 or 4/4 or 2 of these if I can afford. I am hoping not to have to sell my first born or hock the wife’s jewels to buy this. I have tried Woodcraft, Cook Lumber and several hardwood dealers locally without any luck. Somebody must know as I see many of you use this as an accent piece . Please give me a lead.

Bellforest is a good source, but keep in mind padauk turns brown over time.

I recently bought several pieces of prefinished Padauk from Rockler. It looks really good and the quality of the milling is very good. I will still need to match up thickness and probably joint the edges, but that is because I am making drawers with them.

Rockler in Seattle had really pretty boards, this is what I created.

That firetruck looks really nice. I like the contrast with the Maple.
How old is it?

Brazilian Cherry (Jatoba) is a beautiful red color and doesn’t brown as badly as Paduk and is much cheaper. Just my take on the situation.

Thank you, guys. Rockler said they still had some nice Padauk and I’ve ordered some. I’ll try to look for some Jatoba when I get a chance. Might be what I need. Heading to Woodcraft tomorrow with a woodworking buddy. I’m sure I’ll spend too much and get things I won’t use for months. Usually my wife tries to keep me out of Woodcraft and Home Depot because I get carried away and spend too much. You see, I’m not allowed to have money or sharp objects anymore.

Here is another option for you to consider, also, located in Texas.
