Captain Eddie, recently did a Ustream show, starting to explore this very process.
Perhaps this is where he got the idea.

Thanks for sharing and it is very striking. Wonder how much Pencils cost like that. Has to be less then a chunk of costly wood

I’ve seen stuff like that before pretty crazy looking stuff, wonder what kind of resin or what exactly he used to glue them together.
