Is anyone here familiar with the dark splotches on Western Cedar ? It almost looks like a mold. Attached are a couple of pictures on some cedar that I planed down and put 50/50 tung oil and mineral spirits. Thanks in advance.

Looks like iron stains. Reactions with the tannins in the wood. The slightestbit of iron, even in the water, can leave that type of stain. I’ve had it happen to me, sanded it out, only to re-appear with repeated exposure to water.
