How will you be spending the 4th of July this year?

I’m a grandpa. I’ll have the kids out here. They will be shooting, riding horses, eating watermelon and making lots of noise

Gary, that sounds wonderful! :-)

I am thinking about running away to the Gulf for a few days.

Woodworking. I know I am boring.

Unfortunately, I will be at work. Though I have to admit it is nice to earn double time on the taxpayers dime. Thank you America!

I’ll be playing “The Bachelor”. My wife is visiting friends in Georgia. I’ll probably spend my July 4 in the shop, sweating bullets. I might end up with one of those folding picnic tables when it’s all done. Oh, and rustiquing is on the agenda as well. I doubt that I’ll see DonW this far south though.

I’ll be home consoling our 2 dogs that are terrified of fireworks. And watching that the neighbors don’t set our pasture on fire. Again!

I love the island, mostly North Padre just outside of Corpus.

On the 4th, my daughter and son-in-law have a big annual pool party and bar-be-que. Most of my family are there along with some friends I usually only get to see this once a year. There will hundreds of lbs. of crawdad, steamed blue crabs, fried fish nuggets and brisket, chicken, hot dogs, burgers, cole slaw, potato salad, cucumber salad and corn on the cob….....and lots of BEER. There will be 40-50 people there. There are usually leftovers and we take enough home to eat on for a week.

We have been doing this for as the invite says “our 23 annual July 4 blowout”. We used to do the same when we were young but it got to be too much work so daughter and S-I-L took over. I guess we been doing this at one place or another for maybe 40 years. Something we look forward to all year. Hope everyone has as much fun as we do.

I’ll be taking it easy, as I have for the last several days. I was working on one of my cars (my other hobby, but repairs in this case) and dropped the driveshaft on my head, getting a concussion. I can’t exert myself at all, so as to not aggravate the brain swelling, so I can’t do woodworking. Not supposed to be reading or watching television (which I don’t do, but it isn’t much different from the internet, really) until I get better…which the doctor says will take months. I’d rather have had a broken leg.

There are a couple of reasons I prefer North Padre.

1. It is soooo relaxing with very few people when you get past the tourist areas.

2. It’s difficult to find cell coverage or WIFI there.
