Topic tags/keywords: bandsaw

There’s a S45N band saw posted in my local criagslist for a few weeks now. It looks complete and is listed for $800. I am not sure of the age, but it’s white in color if that is any clue. Is this a good deal for this saw? I would use the for general use, and perhaps occasional re-saw. I don’t think I would have a need to re-saw greater than 12”.

On a related note: Is there any problem with moving this saw on its “back” in a truck bed? If I purchase this, I would strap it to a hand truck, then tilt it in the truck bed and transport it lying down.

Thanks!

Funny, I am in Fort Worth and I almost drove down to Austin to buy that exact saw. That is a good deal and that saw should be a good user for a while. Maybe overkill if you barely ever resaw, but I am all for overkill. You’ll have to see how rigid it feels to see if it is ok on its back. I’ve never dealt with one of these in person, so I can’t give any firsthand experience. My advice is be ready to lift a lot of weight and try to take a friend with you. Bandsaws are topheavy and heavy in general, and moving them is not easy.

Thanks for the feedback. I am still on the fence over this, as I don’t really need a bandsaw right now, but I don’t want to pass up on a good deal if another deal like this is hard to come by.

You’ll be fine moving the band saw laying down or vertically. You can take it apart if you want.
