Cricket I remember reading a forum with you stating to let you know when an ad interferes or is an annoyance with using the site…...
I’ve been on the LJ site off and on today. I’ve had an ad in the lower right hand corner play movie trailers with sound throughout my visits today on LJ’s. I turned the volume down on my computer to stop listening to the movie trailers but found no way to stop them from playing.

Not the best image, but I used the snipping tool to capture the ad below

As much as I like supporting the sites I regularly visit… This is a case where I use the Chrome extension ‘Adblock’.

I will report this again. They were working on trying to block any ads with sound.

Yeah, I’ve been getting sound bytes as well. I just hit the mute button but they are annoying.

For those with older computers, videos kill already slow speeds. I quit going to a couple sites because of them. I have a quad core with significant RAM now, but still haven’t been back to most of them.

I am out of town for a few days but I wanted to stop in and let you know that the IT team is actively working on keeping these off the site. Thank you for your patience while they figure out why they keep getting through.

After 5 days posting this I still have the same annoying ads. I installed Adblock after reading this forum that was posted 2 days ago. http://lumberjocks.com/topics/62131

I guess the choice was either to be driven away from LJ’s because of the constant barrage of annoying ads that are not being managed or download ad blocking software specifically for LJ’s (because I have no issues with any other website) so I can continue to learn and enjoy the benefits here.
This Adblock seems to work just fine and will suffice until another overzealous attempt is made to rake in the revenues…...then more software to block that and the cycle continues….

When you open LJ look down on the lower left corner of the task bar and you will see all the ads and where they’re coming from loading on your computer. The internet has turned into an ad campaign for marketing companies.

Here are some things I get when I come for a visit to LJ most of the time.

Adobe Flash Player has Crashed

A Script on this Page is not loading properly. (This stops the page from loading or makes the page load very slowly and tells me most of the ads have badly written codes in them)

We had a client get mouthy videos loading on her computer and after testing it for her we found a company called Tidy Networks had installed an extension in her Firefox and Google Chrome browsers. If you use Firefox or Chrome check you extensions and see what all is there you haven’t installed.

I just bet if you went to your Internet Explorer and checked the temp files you will find a pile of adware cookies installed on your computer. It’s a never ending process to keep them deleted from a computer.

I love LJ but it’s really getting frustrating trying to enjoy the site anymore. When I come to LJ now and get those warnings I just forget it and move on to another woodworking forum that’s not loaded with ads.
