Sorry to fill up this forum with another topic but this is the best place to get information out there in my opinion.

We are expecting our first baby in September, and I really struggle with clutter in general. It seems like one easy way to improve clutter would be make a closet organizer. A really good example of what I am thinking about is this:

I have never worked with MDF before. But from researching old threads on this topic but I am just so confused on how to join a shelf like this. I have a table saw, circular saw, drill, and router. Can you provide some guidance on how I should attach the shelves? Dados? How to build the base? Thanks in advance.

chris congrats on the baby. Just had my first last october.

Normally I’d recommend contacting the OP but it seems like if he is no longer active.

There are a lot of ways to build something like this, but certainly using dados would be a seamless way to build it however you will see the joint from the front unless you build some sort of face frame. I might suggest using a router with straight edge to do the dados. hopefully someone who has built something like this will respond and give you better answers than I have. Best advice is make a very detailed drawings and cut list before heading into the shop to keep all your parts even. The project will turn out disastrous if your shelves start varying in width.

Thanks for the reply Ben and congrats yourself on the baby.

I was thinking about going with dados for the shelves. If I made dados for each shelf would I just use glue to assemble? If not, should I countersink screws from the outside of each shelf? I read another thread that suggested confirmant screws … is this a must or can I use drywall screws?

I would have contacted the original poster but as you said .. it looks like sometime since he has been on the site. Thanks again for the reply.

Lots of ways to do this as stated before.

I did a closet organizer (a box with 2 shelves) using melamine and pocket screws, then used the white iron-on banding.
