My wifes birthday is coming up in August and I want to make her a segmented bowl about 6 to 8 inches deep and about 11 inches in diameter. I am gonna be making 12 sided rings because I am currently set up for cutting 12 sided segments. I am planning on making each ring 1 inch tall but I want to do 6 or 8 rings all with different feature designs. If you have ideas would you please post a picture of the features and I can put the feature together with the wood I have and buy the wood I need. I currently have Yew, White Oak, Red Oak, Cedar,Cypress and Pine. I am looking to use a few different contrasting natural wood colors. I’m thinking of making a Cedar base and have a thin piece of Cedar between each layer and Cedar for the top ring or do this with one of the Oaks. Any of your designs will be greatly appreciated.

Wildwood, thank you for that web page, that will help. TheDane that is awesome looking but just a little bit out of my league for now, maybe with a few more years of experience
