Topic tags/keywords: question

I’m making a bank of drawers for a built in and I’m using tandem blu motion slides. I either read or heard wrong about the drawer box dimensions and I might have a issue. My opening is a little over 21” and I made the drawer boxes 3/16” smaller on each side for a total of 3/8” less than the opening. Now I used 1/2” BB for the boxes and my question being do I need a smaller box now? I checked the blum tech specs and it looks like it’s saying the drawer box inside dimensions need to be the opening width – 42mm (1 11/16”). If this is only an issue for the locking device can I just add material to the inner edge under the box? Thanks in advance for your advice

They are talking for the inside dimension of the box without the walls. The inner section is -42mm. So the compensation for 5/8” material is 3/16” per side, and for 1/2” is 5/16” per side after you add the sides on, and compensate for side material thickness. We use 1/2” BB in our shop and use opening – 5/8” routinely with out any problems, for the overall width of our boxes. So if I get this right you used the 5/8” plywood compensation. So if you built in 1/8” each side, underneath, it should work. But it should equal the opening dimension -42mm between the blocks. For that matter, if you just used an 1/8” spacer on the drilling jig, or added an 1/8” to the layout (if you aren’t using the jig) you should be fine without adding the material. That back locking pin hole has to be right though, and you will have to grow the knotching an 1/8” as well.
