I’ve been wanting to add the RA1166 plunge base to my router (1617EVS) for a while now. I finally sold my old table saw, so I’ve got some money burning a hole in my pocket now. I went to and they no longer offer the base. I next went to Bosch’s website and their list of retailers shows that nearly all of them are out of stock. I next tried Ebay and found only 1. Does anyone know why they are so hard to come by these days? I don’t want to run out and buy one if they are going to be bringing out an improved version. If they are discontinuing the router all together, I might just want to splurge and get an entire router combo, since they aren’t that much more than just the base. I appreciate any input you can provide.

If you start over with a whole new combo kit, I would get the Dewalt 618. I have both, and I much prefer the Dewalt. It has a low stance for better ergonomics and feels great in my hands. I have six routers, and the Dewalt is the one I always reach for.
