Topic tags/keywords: shadowbox shadow box memorial

Hello all, havnt been on for a while, but I just got off the phone with a Navy buddy of mine. One of the men on his boat recently died in an automobile accident, and they want to commission me to make 3 shadowboxes, one for each of his children, that will hold a folded ceremonial flag, his medals, a picture of him with bronze name plate, and various ship awards.

As a Navy veteran I cannot even begin to express how honored I am to be asked to do this, however, I have never made a shadowbox before. Therefore I am asking anyone that has plans for a nice looking shadowbox if they would be willing to share them with me. Also, I have no issues with purchasing plans online if anyone has any links.

Thank you all for your help in advance.

I’m about to make a shadowbox as well, for my wife, she just graduated from nursing school, I’ve seen several of them on here but haven’t seen any plans.

I think I’ll just make mine a custom size to fit everything she wants in it, mitre the corners and put splines in them, then cut the lid/cover from the same stock as the body, then add some hinges and either felt, flock or leave the inside a natural wood finish. And just pick up a piece of glass from a local glass shop. Mine will be my first attempt as well so I’ll probably keep it pretty simple.

Here’s a link to all projects tagged with shadow box ...

Thank you for your service!

Thanks for the reply, I’ll look at that link. I did receive more info from my friend, wants it to be 2’ x 3’ with the flag in bottom center. I’ll also need to finagle a removable base to insert the flag after the flag lowering ceremony.
