My wife and I both collected coins before we were married, and I am aware of the American Numismatic Association’s coin grading standards. Are there such standards for tool grading? I’m not sure how practical they would be anyway, so this is more of a question of a curious nature.

I haven’t seen any “standards” but if you pick up most tool pricing guides, there is a chapter at the beginning as to the authors take. Most are pretty similar, and I would “think” most collectors would follow a John Walters or Roger Smith’s for most tools.

Interesting question.
