Any way to harden up # 2 pine?

So I replaced all the trim in my house with arts and crafts style made from # 2 pine.
I picked through the home depot stuff to avoid knots as best as possible.

I planned to paint it, but not that I see how nice it looks I think maybe I should stain it.

I don’t like the look of crappy stained pine, but I think I can match the white oak floors in my house with some thought and consideration.

I am wondering if a coat of wood hardener after the stain would make this more durable.

What do you think?
