Topic tags/keywords: question planer drum sander conversion

Hi all, I’ve been wondering if you can replace the cutter head in a thickness planer with a sanding head. It would be nice to have two tools in one (thickness planer and drum sander) but I’ve never seen or heard of anything like that. I’ve never removed the head from my planer so I guess it might not be time efficient to swap one out. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance guys, and gals!!

No, not generally, and don’t bother.

Woodmaster makes some combo machines that can do both.

There is a sanding kit for the old Belsaw planers.

You’re better off putting your energy into building a stroke
sander, imo.

Have your say...
