Or do more and more ads show up every day? Yesterday, this little floating box popped up at the bottom of my page. This morning, before I logged in, there was this terrible drop down ad that would expand up at the top making it impossible for me to click on other links. I’m all for the site making some $$$ off ads, but its getting a bit nuts now.

And no, I dont have malware/spyware/virus on my machine, its definitely just this site.

Yes, it is getting worse. It also depends on what operating system and browser you are using as to “how bad” it is.

It’s not just you, it really is kind of disappointing.

I would love to see a subscription service that I could pay a yearly rate to support the site and have it remove the ads. There is definitely value to the site and they deserve to make a few bucks, but its getting to the point where the site is losing value for me because of the nuisance ads.

I’m not seeing any more ads, but I’m seeing quite a few threads complaining about ads.

Adblocker plus. Search it in add ons in your browser tab. You’re welcome.

Any time you see an ad that causes the site to break (like the one that was laying over the login) please let me know right away so I can address the issues with our tech guys.

I use Mozilla here on LJs. Smoother and faster with Mozilla. Seems like less adds too.

I Never see any of these ads. I Don’t use an Ad Blocker.

I also use the Brower everyone one Loves to Hate IE 10.

So. Is it the Site? Maybe not?

AH! “This morning, before I logged in,” That might have something to do with it.

Thanks to an LJ Cookie I’m usually Logged In. If I do a “Clean Up”, their Cookie gets the Boot.

Then the first thing I do when I come here Is Log In and nothing shows up while I’m Logging In.

As others have said, it’s not just you. They’ve gotten more annoying and more obtrusive to. A few weeks ago there was something that played a jingle on EVERY SINGLE PAGE EVERY SINGLE TIME YOU CLICKED ON SOMETHING. It also had that incredibly annoying behavior where it expanded to take up at least half the screen on EVERY SINGLE PAGE. It really just makes the site unusable. End result for me is I now visit LJ’s far less often then I used to.

Whoever is in charge of this needs to learn some lessons about how to introduce ads without pissing off your users or soon there aren’t gonna be any left to piss off.

Sadly I am going to make the assumption that the new overlords are good at business and have run the numbers and said “by adding X ads, we will lost Y members visiting regularly, BUT our revenue will go up X*20 making it a very valuable proposition”.

Smart way to run a business I suppose…obviously hurts the user experience though.

I have been using the standard MS Internet explorer for years. Everything everywhere was getting worse, not just this site. I had all the ad blockers but something changed in the last month (a bit longer) and no updates to the blockers or anything else I tried made it better. I run XP Pro on an older laptop. (6-years seems to be old nowadays) MS stopped all support for XP and downloaded the final update. Hey, not making any claims, but that was the same time everything went to hell. Looked around online and found many others were experiencing the same thing.

I switched to Firebox and their ad blockers and script blockers. No more issues. None. Yes, every site I went to and trusted I had to enable their scripts to run (only once) but it successfully blocks ALL outside scripts.

My recommendation, switch to Firefox. Independently run by volunteers for the users and not big business or government.
