Hey guys,

Like many of you, I patrol craigslist once a month or so just to see what is out there. I always have a few tools in mind to look for. I found this bandsaw yesterday and wanted to see if any of you have ever seen, used, or owned this saw. It is a 16” Yates American. No info on electrical.

Yates American Bandsaw

Seems to me like I could buy a new motor, tires, and blades and I would have a well functioning, heavy saw for about $500 or so, total. I am wondering how this saw performs and what the resaw capabilities are with it.

I love old American power tools and I try to snatch them up when I see them for cheap.

Any thoughts?

Looks like a W-16 to me. Never used one, but that is a legit tool. I would not anticipate needing to get a motor for it, so it seems like a steal to me.

I would jump on it in a second – however I notice the posting is 25 days old. It MAY be gone already and the poster didnt remove it.

If you haven’t called, it’s worth a shot.

I would grab it quick. I bought an older Rockwell 20” for 75.00 last year off of CL. For those type of prices they don’t last long so better call soon.

Looks like a good buy. I would just clean it up.
Those old motors are great. Also if you needed motor work, it would be cheaper to send it out to be rewound or whatever. Those motors are solid performers. You only need to oil them .
