Hi guys I need some help, I have been asked to turn a salad bowl that has a “Retro look” red and whitish was how it was stated to me I was thinking Maple for the “white” but I need some ideas for the “red” any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you

I would suggest Carob or even Purple Heart.

With Carob, the younger the wood the more red it is.

try some padauk or cardinal wood.

thanks I was thinking maybe Cherry, but the padauk is a good thought

Just remember that the padauk will age to a deep burgundy.
Beautiful wood, but it will get an oily sanding dust EVERYWHERE.

Padauk turns nicely but yeah, it’s messy. It can also bleed into the maple which has happened to me a number of times.

The only issue that concerns me, that if you have any sensitivity to it, as Padauk is a known irritant, sensitizer, possible could cause nausea. If you are going to use Padauk wear appropriate protection (I don’t mean a condom) and use good dust collection.

I would go with cherry!
