We’re in the process of moving from FL to MN. We sold our house in FL back in October and have been living in an apartment in FL since then. I underestimated how much I would miss my shop! Thankfully I was able to rent a one-car garage at our apartment complex and kept from going totally stir crazy by renovating a kayak I built back in 1996 and finishing a new kayak that I had previously started and stalled out on in 2011.

We’ll be moving in a couple weeks to a home we had built with a basement. This will be my third basement shop and I’m so looking forward to setting up with almost no space restrictions. I’m hoping to have my shop up and running in June. My project list includes ducting for my dust collection system, built-in shelves for the master bedroom closet, custom cabinets for my wife’s craft room, a third bar stool for our kitchen island, and two Thos. Moser Eastward chairs for the dining room. Let the dust fly…

Congrats on the new home and shop.
Don’t forget all the extra wiring in the basement.

Thanks, I made sure to have enough service in the panel and will hire an electrician to install four 220-volt outlets. Easy access will make this a pretty quick job.

Mark,

Welcome to the land of 10,000 lakes. Not sure what part of the state you are moving to, but I am in the Twin Cities. There are plenty of LJ’s in the area as well.

Looking forward to seeing pics of the new shop once it is up and running.

You’ll be back in FL by New Years. MN is the coldest place I have ever been. We went to Minneapolis for my wife’s niece’s college graduation. I took clothes for a week and damn if I didn’t have to wear everything at once when we went out. When temps drop to below 0 in the daytime, it is no place to have to be at night. We spent 1 week which included 1 day getting there and 6 days praying to leave. I’ve been to Canada, Alaska, Norway, Finland and Iceland….but no place has the bone chilling cold of MN.

Good luck.
