Topic tags/keywords: veneer maple oak

So I went to a woodworking auction recently and bid on some veneer. I was able to pick it up for about 80 bucks. I am trying to figure out how much it is actually worth. Here is what I got:

(9) 1/8” thick 4×8 sheets of “Lite Ply”

(~10) 1/8” thick 4×8 sheets of white ply mdf with a solid white surface

(~25) .033” thick 4×8 sheets of hardwood veneer (maple, oak, etc.)

(~25) .022” thick 4×8 sheets of hardwood veneer – even a small section of bamboo veneer

I have not really worked with veneer at all, but I wanted a bunch of other plywood and mdf that came with this lot.

What do you think? How much would you normally pay for this per sheet?

Thanks for the info.

Seems like a good deal. 4×8 sheet’s of veneer, I’m assuming they are rotary cut? You’ll have different grain patterns if so, just like normal plywood does.

You’ve got to be gloating because of this buy. Just 2 weeks ago I bought a 24” x 96” Alder veneer with paper backing for 70+ dollars….... Enjoy your stuff…..... Jerry (in Tucson)

Thanks for the input, I am not really gloating because I really do not fully know the value of what I have. I am definitely going to keep some of it, but I want to sell the majority of it. If you saw a classified ad for this stuff what would be the price per sheet necessary for you to want to buy it? I live in the Salt Lake City area by the way so if any LJ is looking for this kind of stuff, then just let me know.

After some research and looking around I think the price that would probably bring people to my door would be about 12 dollars per sheet. Do you think 12 would get you to buy some? Just saving up for a decent jointer and need the cash. Let me know your thoughts.

That’s about $0.35/sqft. Most retail pricing on domestic veneer that I see is typically $0.95-$2/sqft for flat cut veneer (non-rotary cut). I think you could probably charge $20-30/sheet as long as they are in good condition and still get people to come. Especially given the large size, which is not as common.

jmartel,

Thanks for the reply. Yeah that is what I would like to sell them for since that would allow me to buy a nice jointer. Hopefully I can sell them soon as my wife is mad at the space the lot is taking up in our garage.

Have your say...
