Topic tags/keywords: antique hand planes vintage tools

Just in case you’re not accumulating your vintage tools fast enough to suit you, here’s a few links to some rather unusual websites with member listings of hand planes for sale. What’s listed, of course, are the ones I haven’t already snagged up myself. (wink, wink) Not a whole lot of turnover on these listings, so a once-a-week browse will do. I’ve grabbed a few gems, they are definitely out there!
You guys are lucky, living in the USA, I can’t get some of these vendors to ship to Canada. Bonanza has been pretty good, so far I have not had an issue with any of these sellers or transactions. Most accept Paypal, which is another plus.

Got a favorite site of your own? Aw c’mon, share it here!!

Check ‘em out!! Good luck.

Thanks, pendragon! that sad photo illustrates a few points:

Your brain is implicitly required to filter out the crap that gets posted on these craft-y sites.

Somebody publishes an idea they like in “Country Journal” or other rural craft magazine, and everyone falls in line like lemmings by imitating the newest trend. I hadn’t seen planes ‘bastardized’ like this until the last year or so; maybe the world ran out of Disston saw blades to paint rustic scenes on? Jeez, I saw a #33 or #34 Stanley pathetically mounted upside down on a wall, serving as a shelf. Utter sacrilege!

Let’s put a positive spin on this….hey, fellas, get out there and grab up every old woodie like the aforementioned lamp (ack!) bring them home for safe keeping, and out of the hands of dippy crafters who have no reverence for old, retired planes!

The horror, the horror, indeed!
