Topic tags/keywords: question mahogany maple joining Hey folks… I’m making an audio rack for a client from Maple and Mahogany. For the legs, I want to combine the two woods but want to avoid any movement so I’m looking for some advice. I’d like to laminate two pieces of Mahogany together and then add Maple on the end of those boards, as in the drawing. Will this cause problems or am I going to be okay? Cheers….Don -- -- Don in Ottawa, http://www.donebydon.ca |

For a normal sized leg it should be fine if both woods are properly dried. -- Joel |

What are the section dimensions? Kindly, Lee -- "...in his brain, which is as dry as the remainder biscuit after a voyage, he hath strange places cramm'd with observation, the which he vents in mangled forms." --Shakespeare, "As You Like It" |

Mahogany is 2” x 2 3/4” each and Maple will be 4” x 1 1/4” to make each leg roughly 4” x 4”. -- -- Don in Ottawa, http://www.donebydon.ca |

I doubt they’ll come apart but I suspect the glue line will show as the mahogany moves slightly more than the maple over time. Onward! Cut a rebate at the Mahogany/Maple glue line, so if the wood moves, it won’t show. |
